A view into the kiln on multiple levels, covered in charcoal ash. For the charcoal reduction firing, I arrange the pots one each level across three shelf sections leaving two gaps between them. This allows the charcoal to reach all spots in the kiln. When the firing reaches its final stage, I open the kiln from the top and fill it with charcoal right up to the edge. The charcoal then burns through gradually until the kiln cools down. This intense reduction atmosphere with the ashes creates beautiful dark, often matte surfaces that give the pottery an authentic, earthy appearance.

Here we go again! Another charcoal reduction firing...
.
The results are, as usual, a bit different. More matte surfaces and warm tones - thanks to further experimentation with materials and firing process.
Those red-rusty tones on some of the pieces... It’s amazing how a little more wood at the end of a firing can turn into something so lovely.
Ground is frozen, but the sun and tea can keep you warm…
